When Buildings Outlast the People Who Manage Them

Reading the Michigan State Capitol’s Playmaker profile featuring their Executive Director Rob Blackshaw, one can understand the importance of Preservation InTelligence.  Today, we stand at the Dawn of Preservation InTelligence; shaping how generational knowledge is captured, organized, and conveyed for our future generations. 

Believing, we have a moral responsibility, an unwritten generational contract with future generations, we must act today to best preserve our most historic and iconic buildings for tomorrow.

Absent of action or upgrading our course of action, we will compromise public trust and allow critical knowledge for another generation to disappear.  We will place an unwanted shadow on those generations; acting timely and with discernment, we can establish a milestone, a foundation, as when a group of likeminded pioneers charted a new course.  A new course that brings light into the obscure corners of preservation; a systemic change that forms the foundation of accountability, compliance, and efficiency in every aspect of preservation.      

The State Capitol of Michigan continues to demonstrate they are at the forefront of Preservation InTelligence with Mr. Blackshaw as their Chief Steward.
