From Digital Twins to Preservation InTelligence: A Review of Quinn Evans' "Digital Twins for Museums: Beyond Environmental Monitoring"

Not my father’s idea of a blueprint but today’s modern, robust advancement of blueprinting.  Today, we are at the intersection of merging our past with the advancement of the present.  Digital twins are virtual gifts for tomorrow’s generation.  Software platforms, like Autodesk’s Tandem, allow us to virtually capture critical and necessary building components; conveying them in such a way that illustrates their interconnectivity and how systems within the walls, roof, and foundation are routed. 

These digital twins are a commitment to stewardship and a generational investment for our future.  This investment protects the fabric that exists in every culture.  Understanding this fabric allows us to honor our past while properly detailing the elements of who, what, why, where, and how they exist.

If our goal is stewardship, we must first prioritize creating digital twins of our culture’s most historic and iconic buildings first; imagine Rome without the Coliseum, Egypt without the Pyramids, England with Big Ben, and Greece without the Parthenon.  We must embrace each aspect of Preservation InTelligence so the fragile fabric of our cultures is properly preserved.
